An insight into this picture book project and the process behind it.
Mina has just moved to a new house that’s quite weird and dark. During the first night she hears the strangest sounds. When she decides to be brave and explore, she comes across an odd looking monster. Instead of letting it scare her, she takes control of the situation and in doing so makes a new friend.
The finished artwork for this project has been printed using recycled milk cartons as printing plates. Some of the plates are up to A3 size. The black and white prints have then been scanned into Photoshop, cleaned up and digitally coloured.
The visual language for this book was - in a way - developed by accident through playing with inks and coloured pencil.
The character of Mina and all the spreads where then developed through experiments in my sketchbook.
